As a musician, it’s very easy to go to a show and feel completely inspired and encouraged by a musical performance. What’s not as easy is to be on the other side of the ball providing that inspiration.
That said, my hat’s off – my gratitude – my applause – my utmost thanks and respect to the ENTIRE cast, crew and crowd who were a part of last Saturday’s show at The Candy Factory (Queen St. in downtown Lancaster) featuring the music of Corty Byron, The Pig Merchants and Vinegar Creek Constituency. The show absolutely moved me and left me inspired!!!
And to downtown Lancaster, you continue to astound me with your support of the arts! You are breeding a community alive and rich with music and the arts!!!
Over the years, I have leaned heavily on this thought when I have been feeling lackluster towards my own music, seeking a “cure” in the form of attending a show that would reignite that spark/fire in me.
Even if I was just out to catch a show, I have seen countless performances of my favorite artists that have left me wanting to run straight home to my guitar and get straight to work on my craft. It’s not always something that I am expecting, but more something I am hoping for from the artist. Some times you get it, some times you don’t.

When I do get it, I find it to be unlike anything else that I experience in life. I find it actually very hard to describe. I think what gets me the most is the fact that with live music… it’s a moment, and then it’s gone! Whether you’re playing or listening, it’s a good show and then it’s in the past. Head out the next night and expect or count on experiencing the same… and you will most likely come up short.
I cannot express enough how hard it is for an artist to achieve this or to inspire this in a listener. Especially when the vibe of the crowd, the show openers, the “groove” of the band, etc. ALL play a huge part in the overall result!
I can’t say it enough, that I am so lucky to have the opportunity to find this kind of inspiration right in my backyard of downtown Lancaster.
